Conclusion
In conclusion, the physical accuracy of Super Mario Sunshine was not at all what I expected. Starting with the F.L.U.D.D., it was my understanding before I began this project that it was the water pushing against the ground that was necessary for Mario's vertical lift. Through a closer examination and incorporation of Newton's laws, I realized that it was simply the equal and opposite force that was resposible for Mario's upward lift. This enlightened me as to why Mario is able to use the hover nozzle so high up in the air with the ground so far beneath his feet. I would say that the most shocking results would have to be from the gravity lab, for I was confident before I began the project that the acceleration due to gravity in the game was very close to our 9.81 m/s^2, but as the lab results prove, they are quite dissimilar!
The most enjoyable part of this project was getting in touch with my inner-child again, for playing the game in order to test the physics not only brought back a ton of memories, but linked my childhood to my current studies and knowledge, something that I find truly remarkable.
