SPECS
In order to explore the physics of Super Mario Sunshine, certain measurements must be taken into account, which will serve as reference points. The first specification to consider would be Mario himself, the lovable, heroic, Italian, and main character of the game. According to Disabled World, the average height of an Italian man is about 5’9”, or 1.8 m. According to Buzzle.com, the typical weight on a male who is 5’9” weighs from 144-176 pounds. That being said, Mario’s figure seems to be somewhat chubby, making him probably weigh close to 175 pounds, giving him a mass of about 80 kg. Since Mario constantly has his F.L.U.D.D companion device strapped to his back, the device's weight must factored in as well. The typical backpack weighs about 15 kg, but Mario’s companion is anything but typical. Since he able to comfortably sprint around with Fludd on his back for great amounts of time, it is safe to say that Fludd’s mass is less than that of an average backpack, most likely totaling at about 10 kg. Putting Mario and Fludd together, we are looking at a 90 kg character with a weight force of 883 N. Knowing the height and weight of Mario is key information and is essential to figure out whether or not the physics of this gamecube game are accurately portrayed.
